New Mexico Adult Baseball League, 18+ Division
Brew Crew 8, Skysox 6 (Game two in best-of-three championship series sweep)
Submitted by Micah Martinez, manager
We have won Four Championships and appeared in Five Straight Championship Games, including Two Back-to-Back Titles. The Brew Crew has officially cemented itself as one of the most dominant teams of the past five seasons.
And this year, they did it as the #4 seed.
2022 — 🏆 Champions
2023 — 🏆 Champions — Back-to-Back
2024 — Runner-Up
2025 — 🏆 Champions
2026 — 🏆 Champions — Back-to-Back
That’s 4 championships in the last 5 seasons, with the Brew Crew reaching the championship game in all five seasons.
The Brew Crew entered the tournament as the #4 seed, but the seeding didn’t matter once the games started. After battling through the loser’s bracket, the Brew Crew faced the #1-seeded Angels in a must-win semifinal.
And they had already beaten them once. The Brew Crew did it again.
In a huge closing performance, Kyle Akin stepped up with the bases loaded and no outs, shut down the Angels, and helped secure the victory that sent the Brew Crew to the championship. It was just one of several game-changing moments from Akin throughout the tournament.
🏆 Championship Game #1 — Brew Crew 5, Skysox 3
The Brew Crew entered Championship Game #1 knowing exactly what they had to do: Beat the Skysox twice.
With several pitching absences, the young Forrest Duke stepped up and delivered his best performance of the season, allowing just three runs.
The offense answered with a scrappy 5-run performance, getting timely hits and contributions throughout the lineup. And once again, Kyle Akin stepped into a critical closing situation and delivered, helping preserve the lead and secure the 5–3 victory. The win forced a winner-take-all Championship Game #2.
The final game started about as badly as it possibly could. The Brew Crew fell behind 6–0 in the first inning. But this team has built its reputation on its ability to fight back.
Nick Garcia stepped in to pitch the remainder of the game and completely shut the Skysox down. From the moment Garcia took the mound, the Skysox didn’t score another run. Meanwhile, the Brew Crew offense chipped away at the deficit. Then came the 4th inning.
The Brew Crew exploded for a 6-run rally, taking the lead and completely flipping the momentum of the championship game.
Joshua Escobedo hit the biggest hit of the game, a clutch 3-RBI, bases-clearing double that put the Brew Crew ahead. From there, the Brew Crew never looked back.
Final: Brew Crew 8 — Skysox 6.
The championship run was a complete team effort, with several players stepping up when the Brew Crew needed them most.
Special recognition goes to:
Colby Curry, who was a major offensive contributor throughout the championship run.
Benito Martinez consistently produced at the plate and helped keep the offense moving.
Lee Griego was another key offensive performer who came through with important contributions during the run.
And of course, Joshua Escobedo, whose 3-RBI, bases-clearing double in Game Two became one of the championship’s defining moments.
Honorable Mention goes to Kyle Akin. You can’t tell the story of this championship run without recognizing Kyle. Akin stepped into multiple game-changing closing situations when the Brew Crew needed someone to shut the door. When the pressure was at its highest, Akin delivered.
