‘Rick Arcuri Captures Silver Slugger Award’

Sacramento Men's Senior Baseball League logoThe Sacramento Seals won the Spring 50+ campaign in the American Division with an 11-5 victory over the RiverDogs. The winner of our Silver Slugger award was Rick Arcuri, who batted .621, had an OBP of .686, and an OPS of 1.410.  He ended the year going 16 for 23 in his last nine games and going 1-1 with a double, two runs, and two walks in the playoffs, all while playing up to five different positions.

We had many key players, especially Rick Nowaski, leading the team in batting average with .625, OBP-739, and OPS-1.552.  While he was just shy of qualifying because of ABs, he tore up the league.  John Colville, as usual, was vying for that coveted Silver Slugger and leading the team with five doubles and two triples, as he and Rick anchored the backstop duties.

Dean Mann pitched 10 innings and hit .609.  Speed?  We had speed with 50 stolen bases.  Board member Dave Whitesel led the way with 14, Eric Abeyta with 12, and Tim Skillman, aka Skilly, followed up with seven.  We had plenty of pitching, too.  Our strong starting staff of four began with Bob Stoddard, leading the team in innings pitched with 21.2, and arguably the ACE being Pat Zalasky with 20 IP, 21 Ks, and an ERA of 4.05.

There are so many others to mention, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention our skipper for the past 12 years, Scott Stevens, who builds the rotations, line-ups, and keeps us all in check, not to mention guiding us to the post-game drinks!

Congrats to the Sacramento Seals!
