North Texas Amateur Baseball League, Fall 40+ Brazos Division

For the NTABL Brazos (40+) Division, it was the Dallas Spirits once again taking care of business in dramatic fashion. Shawn Lee and his squad were nearly perfect again, falling once to the Hurricanes in the regular fall season before defeating the Rough Riders in round one by a score of 3 to 2.

The North Texas Amateur Baseball League LogoThe team rallied from a 2 to 0 deficit as Rough Riders pitcher Ross Nussle was on fire, dealing 12 strikeouts against the team before the squad rallied with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 2 to 2 after Travis Hitzeman doubled and Shawn Lee singled.

Shawn Hunt delivered the game-tying single to force extra innings. The team got out of a bases-loaded jam in the top half of the eighth before Matt Crowell delivered a single to walk it off in the bottom frame.

Spirits starter, Mike Sopocy, finished with the victory and 10 strikeouts of his own during the pitcher’s duel.

In the Championship, the Spirits held a 4 to 0 lead with starting pitcher Jonathan Duran going no-no for five innings before the Knights scored twice to make it a 4 to 2 game. The Knights rallied in the seventh inning to tie the game, but rookie, Vinny Diciero singled home Cliff Brade to walk it off to help the ghosts earn their eighth Division Championship.
