‘Moyer Tosses Complete Game Championship Game Gem’

Cleveland Steve’s Sports won the Cleveland MSBL 25+ Gold Division championship by defeating the BLAZE, 10-0. This was Steve’s Sports’ second championship in as many years in the MSBL Gold division. Steve’s finished the season with a record of 14-2.

“This was not a typical postseason run for our group,” said manager John Ramsey. “We had some guys unavailable for us, including our two best pitchers. So, we did what any other 25-and-over age group would do, we had our 48-year-old player/manager pitch the semi-final game, and a 45-year-old part-time player pitch the championship.”

Todd Moyer accepted the challenge and went the distance, throwing a complete game shutout, with five strikeouts, and three walks while scattering five hits.

“This was the most challenging season as a manager,” said Ramsey. “There were moments when I almost walked away. As every manager reading this knows, getting enough guys to commit every game is the toughest part of running an adult baseball team.

At this age, life gets in the way a lot. We had a guy with a baby on the way, we had weddings, injuries, bachelor parties, kids, etc. It’s difficult to compete with those things and still put a competitive team on the field. You won’t get any sympathy from other managers, because they are dealing with the same issues themselves.”

“This was one of the toughest years in the Cleveland MSBL,” continued Ramsey. “Our Gold division was stacked. Don’t let the final score fool you. The BLAZE are an amazing team with a great group of guys.”

“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. This Steve’s Sports group is a family with every member willing to step up and put the team first. As I mentioned earlier, this was a challenging season. As we experienced life issues, we also dealt with death, as we lost long-time teammate Brett Higgins earlier in the Summer. His presence was felt, and he will always be missed.”
