Chesapeake MSBL, 21+ Fred Gore Division
Chesapeake Cubs 9, Reds 8 (Game two in best-of-three championship series sweep)

Submitted by Patrick Miller, Cubs manager
The Cubs captured their first league championship in the 21+ Fred Gore Division after some major recruiting that brought in many key acquisitions, such as Tevin Nelson, Rex Jackson, Billy Sinsang, and Denzel Johnson. After starting the regular season 15-0, the Cubs stumbled a bit but managed to win the last game of the season to get back on track.
The Cubs entered the playoffs as the Number 3 seed. They then went on to sweep through the playoffs, going a perfect 6-0 in the three rounds, defeating the Tides, Expos, and top-seeded Reds. They did so with dominant pitching performances from Courtney Mack and Ray Weaver.
The Cubs’ offense averaged 10 runs per game. During the playoffs as a team, the Cubs hit .357 with 20 extra-base hits and 24 stolen bases in six games, while on the mound, the staff posted a 1.61 ERA with 26 strikeouts.
The final game of the season featured a spectacular performance on the mound from Ray Weaver, pitching nine innings with two earned. Offensively, the Cubs had three triples, one of which came from Rex Jackson in the bottom of the eighth, where Rex drove in two runs and later scored to tie the game at eight. The game plateaued in the bottom of the ninth in walk-off fashion, as Abe Herrera singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to break an 8-8 tie and seal the two-game sweep for the Cubs!
