‘Butcher Fans Playoff Record 19 on Way to Title Game Shutout’
Submitted by Bob Bankoski, A’s manager
In a showdown of the League’s top two teams, and in anticipation of who would walk off Dietrick Park Field with the prestigious playoff trophy, the A’s didn’t disappoint the fans!
The Swinging A’s plated three runs in the top of the second inning and never looked back, as they continued to add runs as the game went on and used the 10-run mercy to take down the 2025 League Champs.
Travis Butcher went eight strong innings, striking out a playoff record 19 batters and the first 11 Pirates he faced to start the game while scattering five hits in a dominating performance.
Austin Spicer, who led the A’s at the plate all season as their top hitter, along with Brian Gunnell and Brandon Shelters, all had three hits to lead the A’s 14-hit offense.
The A’s also set a new playoff record, as they used the 10-run mercy rule on all three opponents they faced in the run to the championship, and had a 34-3 run differential. Max Schrantz had two hits to back losing pitcher Jake Horford, who struck out 10.
