The Houston Roughnecks capped off their 2025 spring season with a statement victory, taking home their first-ever Open Division Championship in the Houston Hardball League. In a long-awaited moment of redemption, the Roughnecks defeated the two-time defending champion Desperados, the same team that had ended their title hopes in each of the past two seasons.

By the time the final out was recorded, the scoreboard read 14–6 in favor of the Roughnecks, cementing a dominant performance on both sides of the ball.

Leading the way was MVP Nick Priola, who delivered an incredible four no-hit innings to start the game. His command on the mound set the stage and gave the Roughnecks all the momentum they needed. Out of the bullpen, the staff remained solid with strong relief innings from August Mueller, Eric Yielding Jr., and the closing effort from Jeremy Splawn to finish the job.

Defensively, the outfield was anchored by center fielder Darryl Briscoe, whose range and leadership kept the Desperados’ dangerous lineup in check. Offensively, the Roughnecks’ lineup was relentless from top to bottom, producing timely hits and capitalizing on every opportunity to extend the lead.

“This was truly a team win,” said playing manager Adam Jaggers, who has led the Roughnecks since their debut season in the league in 2020. “Every guy played an important role, and after years of coming up short, it feels amazing to finally break through.”

For the Roughnecks, the championship was more than just a trophy. It was a culmination of years of effort, resilience, and belief that their time would come. On this spring afternoon in Houston, that belief became reality.
