2024 Long Island Patriots Make it Four in a Row in Long Island Midweek MSBL
Long Island Midweek, 45+ Ripken Division
Long Island Patriots 9, Mariners 6
‘Patriots Log Four Consecutive Championships’
Submitted by Scott Signorelli, manager
On August 19th, the Long Island Patriots captured their second consecutive 45+ Ripken Division Championship with a 9-6 win over the Mariners. The Patriots won the previous two championships in the 52+ Division.
It was a hard-fought series splitting the first two games. The Patriots went back to pitcher Vic Lara in game #3, who won game #1 with a complete game. Vic showed excellent control in the series.
In the first inning, the Patriots opened up the scoring with a 3-run home run by Chuck Voorhees. That set the tone throughout the whole game. Clutch hitting by Rob Gonzalez, Vic Lara, Ruben Cardona, Chuck Vorhees, Sam Fischer, Steve Liesau, Seth Moskowitz, and Wayne Holzmann kept the pressure on throughout the series.
With the Mariners putting together a rally, the Patriots went to their bullpen with Rob Gonzalez taking the mound closing it out for the save to secure the Championship, 9-6.
Vic Lara was the winning pitcher of both games in the series.
The unity and cohesion of this team show how great this team is from the top to the bottom of the lineup, including strong pitching. That led the Patriots to a 14-4 record in winning the 45+ Ripken Division, giving the team the top seed going into the playoffs.
This is the most talented team I have played with.
