The Logo of Puget Sound Senior Baseball LeagueDuring the regular season, the Monarchs finished second overall with a 12-9-1 record and opened their playoff run against the third-seeded Steelheads and squeezed out a 6-4 victory with starter Carl Detert going 5 2/3 innings to pick up the win, with Fernando Da Silva closing out the game with 3 1/3 innings of no-hit, 7K relief.  Hitting was a balanced attack with Michael Collier leading the way with three hits and Chris Debnar, David Kuechle, and Rich Seiler chipping in two hits apiece.

In game two the Monarchs faced their nemesis, the Naranjeros and came out victorious by a final of 11-6.  Once again starter Carl Detert got the victory with six innings of 3-hit ball.  This time Pat Fetty cleaned up the final innings with his own 3-hit effort.  Don Moran led the hitting parade with three hits and three RBI while Tod Sakai, Patrick Todd, and Paul Tollefson chipped in two hits apiece.

In the championship game, the Monarchs met up with the #5 overall but still dangerous Ravens squad led by manager Brad Hoban.  With the luxury of a full week’s rest between games, Carl Detert was handed the ball once again and he responded with an outstanding 7-inning start, giving up one unearned run on four hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Fernando Da Silva closed the game with two innings of shutout relief giving up a single hit, one walk and three K’s.  The Monarchs scored early with two runs in the first off Raven’s starter Toshi Niwa and added another run in the second to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

The Ravens picked up their lone run in the fifth but both teams settled in after that and it became a pitcher’s duel.  Tod Sakai and Paul Otto were the hitting stars with two hits each. Eric Davis and Patrick Todd chipped in with singles, as these were the key RBI’s to drive the Monarchs to a 3-1 victory.
