This was our second spring season and third season overall, as we are a tight group of friends and coworkers. We carry a 19 man roster because most of us work together and are shift workers but can usually get ten guys to show up. We played 12 games in the regular season with a record of 10-2 and it was overall a great season with guys stepping up and playing out of position due to injury. Right off the bat we lost our numbers one and two starting pitchers due to shoulder surgery and Jeff Cole came from behind the dish to be our main starter throughout the spring.
Jeff Cole ended up leading the league in home runs, innings pitched, strikeouts and wins. Because of his stellar performance Jeff took home the league MVP award as voted by his peers.
The championship game summary:
We had just played our championship game opponent, the Outsiders, three days prior in a double-header. We split the games, winning the first and losing the second. The championship game had to be rescheduled because of rain and it was a scramble but we were able to get a team there. We were down 2-0 going into the third inning when ourDanny Terasevich stepped up to the plate with two on and hit a bomb to left. Going into the fifth we were down 8-4 and the game was starting to get away from us.
But in the bottom of the sixth our bats finally came alive. Jeff Cole hit a solo homer andDanny Terasevich hit a grand slam. We ended the sixth by putting 12 across and had to hold the Outsiders in the top of the seventh. The game was eventually called due to time and the rest is history, as we won the title with a 16-11 victory. Thanks to all our families for supporting us and letting us be kids three hours a week!
