Selflessness, determination, and teamwork define this year’s team. For the first time, the Charlottesville Brewers are the 2024 Blue Ridge Men’s Senior Baseball League Champions, defeating the Culpeper Senators 16-3!

The season began with challenges as several new players joined a seasoned, veteran squad—many returning to the field after 20 years. Shaking off the rust was slow, and by mid-season, the Brewers were sitting at a .500 record. But the second half of the season told a different story. Losing only two games, the Brewers locked in the second seed, narrowly missing out on the top spot by just one game.

In the playoffs, the veteran players set the tone, driving in runs and paving the way for the championship. The final game saw more of the same—key contributions from veterans with clutch hitting, dominant pitching, and solid defense. Meanwhile, the new players kept the pressure on, stealing bases and hitting home runs.

Throughout the season, whenever adversity struck, the team rallied together with a “next man up” mentality. Everyone played their role with disciplined, fundamental baseball. Highlights of the season included two spectacular home run-saving catches (one in the championship), home runs, booming doubles off the fence, a perfectly executed suicide squeeze to score the winning run, and stellar pitching from newcomers that kept the team competitive.

It was a season of grit and unity, ending with a well-deserved championship victory!
