2014 Blaze Cop 18+ AA Title in Long Island MABL
Long Island MABL 18+ AA Division
New York Blaze 5, Massapequa Bisquits 1
Submitted by Ben Oliveri, Blaze managerThe series between the New York Blaze and the Massapequa Biscuits took all three games to crown a champion in the Long Island MABL 18+ AA division best of three championship. The Massapequa Biscuits took game one in the 12th inning on a two-run double, 6-4. Blaze pitcher Todd Craig went 11 innings but took the loss. In game two the Blaze ace Corey Murphy dominated, going all nine innings while striking out 14. The Blaze won 8-3. Pat Schook came up big with a few hits and three RBI to pace the offense.
In the deciding game three Corey Murphy pitched again, going the distance, striking out eight and only giving up one earned run. The Blaze won 5-1 to clinch the trophy. Clutch hitting and superb defense put us in position to win. Corey did the rest. Frank Burns caught the final out in left and the Blaze met at the pitcher’s mound for the dog pile. Corey Murphy was nominated most valuable player going 2-0, 18 innings, four runs and 22 strikeouts. Blaze has now won back to back championships, 2013 and 2014.
