2024 Angels Sweep Blacksox for Central Coast, San Luis Obispo Championship
Central Coast MSBL/MABL, San Luis Obispo
SLO Angels 6, Blacksox 3 (Game two in best-of-three championship series sweep)
Submitted by Boz Barren, Angel’s manager
Although this was our sixth consecutive championship run, it was one of a kind. This year the Angels were able to finish off an undefeated season. It was not a perfect season, having tied our last regular season game 6-6 in a finals preview. We did, however, complete the season 18-0-1.
This year’s team was one of the most talented we have had in years, and so were the teams we faced this year. We saw better pitching and more youth across all teams. We were able to show our depth this year not only as a team but also as a pitching staff. This year’s roster of 15 consisted of guys from age 22-79. Our pitching staff consisted of four guys who logged 25+ innings this year.
Our experience, depth, and versatility are what allowed us to put out highly competitive lineups every Sunday for a whole season. Our consistent defense and timely hitting continue to be part of our team’s identity. We are also lucky to have had the best big game and overall pitcher for some time, now. This year was no different.
Patrick Haugen did not give up an earned run all regular season or post season. He pitching a total of 52 innings, striking out 86 batters, all while hitting close to .400 all year. It is safe to say he was our MVP this season.
We rode his arm along with our great defense and timely hitting into a first-round sweep and earned a rematch with our league rival Blacksox in the final series. After a tense game one victory, 6-0, the series was over in game two with a score of 6-3. The scores do not reflect the close games and heads up plays our opponents made. They are an admirable opponent year in and year out.
I appreciate every member of my team. They all play a huge role in our continued success. We are very proud to say we care about the chemistry and character of our team and that’s why we are successful.
