2024 Indy Orioles Win Tough 18+ National Division Title at Indiana Baseball League
Indiana Baseball League, 18+ National Division
Indy Orioles 9, Arrows 3 (Game three in best-of-three championship series)
Submitted by Wade Teltoe, Orioles’ manager
“After losing game one of the Indiana championship 12-11 to the six-time champion Arrows the previous weekend, we took games two and three, 13-3 and 9-3,” said Teltoe. “Garret Walter went 5-8 on the day with five RBI and 11-year veteran Blake Baumgartner had a big day going 4-10 with four RBI.”
Dan Brenneman pitched 12 innings on the day! The big man started game one and pitched three innings. He then came in for game two and pitched nine more innings. He had nine K’s and only allowed four earned runs. Dan finished the season 5-0 with 58 K’s and a 2.11 ERA.
“In our 11 years, with over 180 games played, we have suffered three championship heartbreaks, and now we finally broke through,” Wade further explained. “We started out as 20 strangers thrown together as an expansion team in the Indiana Baseball League and we’ve become lifelong friends.
We were originally given the name Diamondbacks and played that first season in oversized shirts given to us by the league. There are still five of us left from the original team. We’ve gone from 20 something college kids to husbands and fathers in our 30’s still playing a kid’s game. Sundays during the summer will always be for the Birdz!”
