2024 Jacksonville Indians Sweep JaxCub to Become Jacksonville MABL Champions
Jacksonville MABL
Jacksonville Indians 14, JaxCub 1 (Game two in best-of-three series sweep)
The Jacksonville Indians swept the JaxCub team 7-6 and 14-1 to become the 2024 champions of the Jacksonville MABL.
This championship marks the 10th total for manager and league president Joe Hellett and for players Devon Hellett and Jayson Figueroa.
Game one was a hotly contested game, that featured a lot of back-and-forth on the scoreboard and on the field, electrifying the large crowd that gathered at Fort Family Park, the new all-turf facility administrated by Walk-Off Charities.
JaxCub went up early in game one and held the lead until the Tribes’ Nick Ulrich hit a towering three-run home run to left, that gave the Indians a lead they never relinquished in the double elimination championship series.
The Indians were lead during the tournament on the mound by Caleb Pitts and Willie Farrar, who threw 15 scoreless innings overall, and at the plate by Nick Ulrich, Devon Hellett, and Daniel Davis.
The very competitive JaxCub team, newly formed this season by twin brothers Yoeny and Yodeny Martell, was made up of many players who had defected from Cuba, including former Cuban National Team players Jeferson Delgado and Ivan Prieto, the latter who escaped from the World Baseball Classic in Miami in March 2023.
