Briggs’s Clutch Hitting Propels Marlins to Victory Over Red Sox’

May 21, 2024…Taylor Briggs drove in four runs on three hits to lead the Marlins past the Red Sox 16-2 on May 21st. In the fifth inning, Taylor hit a grand slam to left field.
The Marlins got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Payton Jenkins doubled, scoring two runs, Ryan Heller was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Albert Cartenudo homered to left field, scoring two runs.
The Marlins added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after the Red Sox committed an error, and Jenkins singled, each scoring one run.
The Marlins scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. FA Hunter singled, scoring one run, and Briggs hit a grand slam to left field.
Ryan Heller earned the win for the Marlins. Ryan surrendered two hits and one run over three innings, striking out four and walking two. Wyatt Nale took the loss for the Red Sox. Nale went three and two-thirds innings, surrendering 11 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits, striking out six and walking two. Payton Jenkins threw three innings of zero-run ball for the Marlins in relief. He surrendered four hits, striking out one and walked none.
The Marlins amassed 16 hits in the game. Payton Jenkins provided pop in the middle of the lineup and led the Marlins with five runs batted in. The infielder went 3-for-4 on the day. Jenkins and Briggs each collected three hits for the Marlins. Tim Tremblay, FA Hunter, and FA Serena each collected multiple hits for the Marlins.
Jenkins and Briggs each stole multiple bases for the Marlins, as the Marlins stole eight bases in the game. The Marlins also turned three double plays in the game.
John O’Rourke and Chris Rolfes each drove in one run for the Red Sox. Alex Lee led the Red Sox with two hits.
This is the Marlin’s fourth Championship in the last five seasons. The Championship MVP was awarded to Taylor Briggs, Payton Jenkins, and Albert Cartenudo.
