2014 Clowns Spank Jaxx for Atlanta 18+ Saturday Title

Atlanta MSBL Saturday 18+ Division

Clowns 18, Jaxx 4

Written by “The Captain” Tony Roehl

The Clowns completed a tough task and repeated as champions of the 18+ Saturday Division. The Clowns swept the Jaxx in the finals 7-1, and 18-4, and finished the year at 14-1. Andrew Parrish and Michael Player picked up the wins and Brendan Pilger (x2), Zach Huff and Tony Roehl homered.

The secret to the Clown’s success is simple: friendship first, great hitting, superstar pitching, strong all around defense and having more fun than we should, during and after games.

The squad was bolstered this year by adding Nile Goings, Chad Sanders and Andrew Loos. Dave Caithmal returned from a self-imposed Clown exile and caught almost every game while having his best year at the plate.

Pitchers included Michael Player, Andrew Parrish, Chad Sanders, Andrew “Baby Clown” Loos, Brian Cox and Ben Fitzhugh. Rounding out the squad were Papa Fitz, Marcus Fitzhugh, Cullen “College Boy” Boswell, Brick Boswell, Cliff “Old Man” Jones, Chad Vosejpka, Dennis Siedlak and Mike Veronesi. Bret Donovan cheered on the team and was sober some of the time. Chelle Huff kept the book and helped maintain a sense of decorum in the dugout.

Winning the championship was bittersweet because it was manager and original Clown Mike Veronesi’s last game in Atlanta. Veronesi moved to Tampa this fall after more than 15 years playing with the Clowns and their predecessors. We’ll miss you #6!
