2023 Chesapeake Braves Win Ninth Consecutive 35+ Division Championship in Chesapeake MSBL
Chesapeake MSBL, 35+ Division
Chesapeake Braves 5, Chesapeake Groundhogs 2 (Game two in best-of-three series sweep)
The 35+ Braves in the Chesapeake MSBL won their ninth consecutive championship beating the Chesapeake Groundhogs in a best-of-three series on 9/5/23. The Braves needed only two games to secure the series win, winning game one 13-1 and game two 5-2 against an excellent Groundhogs team. Game one starting pitcher Tom Schauppner threw a complete game, allowing only two hits and striking out five. Dave Greeley pitched the second game, throwing all nine innings, scattering five hits with eight K’s.
The Braves finished the regular season in first place with a record of 17-2. The offense scored a league-high 186 runs, while the pitching staff allowed only 53 (also a league-best). This year the core Braves welcomed new additions Austen Brandt, Pat Crawford, and Tony Tiani who each contributed enormously to the Braves’ success. Every member of the Braves played and contributed to the team’s success. All the guys have a part in this championship, stepping up, stepping in, playing hurt, and doing whatever is needed to win.
This season was dedicated to long-time Braves manager and leader, Jeff Wolf, who sadly passed away in February. Jeff brought this team together and winning the championship was fulfilling yet bittersweet, but we know he was with us all the time. We are a great group of baseball players but an even better group of friends. Go Braves!!!
