2023 Mustangs Baseball Club Goes Undefeated to Win DCMSBL 50+ National Division Title and Cop ‘Four-Peat’
DCMSBL, 50+ Jim Beck National Division
Mustangs Baseball Club 7, Fairfax Outlaws 2 (Game two in best of three series sweep)
Submitted by Mike LaComb, manager
When a team has an undefeated season, there are so many contributions from every member of the squad. And, even after the regular season, the team still has to win the playoffs and the championship, or else the undefeated season just doesn’t seem to be as special.
For the 50+ Mustangs Baseball Club, it was a total team effort to make this amazing season happen.
—Buzzy Jackson pitched most of the team’s wins throughout the year, and he topped it off by pitching a complete game win in the semifinal round of the playoffs. And, he collected three hits in the game to help his own cause.
—Mark Gleason and Chris Dunn each pitched victories in the best two out of three format championship series, besting a tough opponent in the Fairfax Outlaws, 5-2 and 7-2 respectively.
—Ron Barckhoff sparked the offense in the two championship games as he collected five hits including a triple and two doubles.
–Veterans Joe Walsh, Vince Towns, and Robert Smith made up the heart of the batting order as they provided consistent firepower and key hits all season long, and in the playoffs.
—Greg Sadosuk, Steve Munday, Sean Cohan, Scott Miner, and Dave Kaufmann played errorless defense throughout the playoff run. Sean Cohan also knocked out three hits in the semifinal game.
—Mike McConnell, Bill Dornbusch, Dave Raskin, and Ken Prohoniak battled through injuries and medical issues to have a great season even though they were unfortunately on the IL for the championship games. Their contributions were instrumental in the team having an undefeated season.
The Mustangs Baseball Club is an organization that is a band of baseball brothers that play baseball together as teammates but share their lives together as friends. We are grateful every day that we can still play this game, and we are so thankful for MSBL that has given us that opportunity.
