2023 Brewers Notch ‘Three-Peat’ in 18+ Esler Division of Detroit MSBL
Detroit MSBL, 18+ Esler Division
Detroit Brewers 7, Americans 2 (Game two in best of three series sweep)
‘Brewers Notch 3-Peat in Esler Division’
Sunday morning the Brew Crew headed out to Maccomb for a 2 out of 3 championship series for the Detroit MSBL 18+ Esler Division against the second-place team, the Americans. The Brewers sent out Skipper Mark Morgan for game one where he would have a stellar outing striking out 17, including four in the first inning, while only allowing one hit in the game with no free passes. Almost a no-no. Teammate Matt Rehfeldt did have two of those for the Brewers this year!
Things would get started on the offensive end for the Brewers slowly in game one but surely scraping across Zachaski in the second and Krom in the third. The fourth is where the bats got moving with scrappy hits when coach number two, Zac Walter, smoked a triple to the wall in right and ended up scoring to score four in the fourth. But the brewers weren’t done, adding two in the fifth with Zacharski launching one over the deep left-centerfield wall for his fifth home run of the year. The Brew Crew added four more in the sixth to end up winning 12-0.
The Brewers send out Zac Walter for game number two. While the chirping got a little louder in this game, Walter went all seven innings while only allowing two runs, one of them being unearned, and tallied 9 Ks, allowing five hits with no walks. That turned out to be 14 innings with no walks from the staff!
On the offensive end, the Brewers went up against some velo from Carlos Tumpkin, who would go six No-Hit innings, allowing two walks with no runs scored. The Brewers heard plenty of banter, which may not have been the right move for a team with 20 wins on the season. As the seventh inning started, they did much more than just put it in play.
Brandon Krom and Zac Walter started the inning with some quality ABs, working two walks in a row. The third batter of the inning, skipper Mark Morgan, ended the no-hitter by hitting a shot up the middle to load the bases. That created bases loaded with no outs and only down by two with the heart of the lineup coming up.
Next would come a pitching change, which caused the Brewers to ERUPT as Chase Williamson smoked a double to left field to score two and tie up the game! Zacharski would follow up with a single of his own to take the lead 3-2, while the next two new Olivet pitchers, Matt Rehfeldt and Max Daust, smashed doubles of their own while scoring themselves to add to the lead making it 7-2.
Walter would walk back out to the mound to close it out, going a clean one, two, three to keep them quiet and win the Playoffs for the third year in a row!”
