‘Owlz Take PSSBL Title in 45+ Smokey Division’
Submitted by Jeff Kyger and Brad Cline
The Owlz finished the regular season in second place in the 45+ Smokey Division (going 17-7) but with Captain Stan Friedlander flying in from Japan for the playoffs and backed by Pitcher Steve Lampkin starting three of the four playoff games, and the presence of Sean Prouty (three intentional walks in Championship game), they took the title going 4-0 in the playoffs.
Paul Chauvin showed up in uniform for the Championship game after a season ending knee injury mid-season and added to the extensive team chemistry which can be attributed to the majority of the OWLZ player’s playing together for years in the 35+ Sierra Division. We basically migrated to the Smokey division as an intact team. We also added previous teammates Joe Roach, Max Montrey and Brad Cline in 2017.
Pitcher Lampkin was the workhorse on the mound going 10-0 with an era of 1.01 while also hitting .438 at the plate this season. Slugger Prouty led the eight team Division in hits, walks, triples and home runs while hitting .565 for the year. Management, led by Matt Evers and Dan Schumacher, has kept the core team together the last three years and expects this continue for years to come. Go Hooters!
