Devil Rays Post Solid Season in Their 15th Year in Southern Tier (NY)
Submitted by Dave Jagger, Devil Rays coach
In their 15th season, the longest tenure for any team in the Southern Tier (NY) Adult Baseball League, the Devil Rays made their second championship appearance, the other coming in victory in 2006. This year’s team, led by manager Ryan McAndrew, continued the franchise’s history of blending experience with youth and having the most fun in the league. With a regular season record of 11-3, the team rode a spectacular pitching staff to the top seed. Mike Rapisardi, Mike Wakalowski, Mike Meleski, and Cooper Hewitt steered the team toward an incredible 0.99 ERA during the regular season (26 Runs, 14 Earned allowed in 14 games). The playoff series resulted in a bit more run-scoring, leaving the final ERA including playoffs at 1.53. The offense was steady, led by Jamie Wescott (.391) and Josh Hodges (.415). This was the third consecutive winning season for the franchise, and brings the overall franchise record to 139-155.
