‘Indians Claim ‘Three-peat’ and Fourth Championship in Five Years’

The 2026 60+ LIMSBL Long Island Indians capped their 3-peat and fourth championship over five continuous seasons by dominating their opponents in hitting, defense, pitching, and stolen bases.  This team, led by Frank Esposito and Tony Ferraro, have built a legacy lasting over 25 years.  Their deep roster of players has delivered year in and year out.

The 2026 top hitting stars include OF Irwin Akon with a .676 average, 1B Bruce Groosman at .657, SS Billy Stevenson at .522, C Dennis Nagel at .517 and 2B Jimmy Appel at .500.  Frank Esposito led in all pitching stats with nine games started, six overall wins, including three playoff wins, with an overall 2.54 ERA.

Pete Fasuili had six games started, four overall wins, including game #2 playoff win over the A’s, with an impressive 3.98 ERA.  Drew Lanzetta also had six games started with two wins, spent some time on the IL, but returned for the championship round and was hitting blasts all over the field.

The Indians kept the pressure on their opponents by swiping bases at a record clip, led by CF Guy Bonet with 16, 3B Philip Echevarrio with 12, and 2B Wayne Smith with 8.

The Long Island Indians would like to thank all of our division opponents, including the LI Express, LI Athletics, and the Massapequa Pirates.  There is a mutual respect amongst all LIMSBL players, and we can all shake hands, hug and laugh together at the end of all our games.  We are all thankful that we can still compete and have fun on the baseball field, and thanks to the MSBL leadership team, and our partner AFU Umpires Association.
