Western Bacon Burgers 12, Phillies 4

Game one was a showdown of two juggernauts. The Heavyweights are a tough team every year, dominating teams with their stellar pitching and contact hitters

The Burgers went down 1-0 in the third inning after Brett Buchheit gave up two singles and a passed ball.  The Burgers were able to get a rally going after Johnny Nickelson hustled out a single to second base. After this, the Burgers were able to rip off five runs in the fifth inning to close the door on the heavyweights with a 7-1 victory.

Game One Highlights:

Michael Smith: 1-2 with two runs scored and a double

Gabe Lopez: 1-3 with a triple and one RBI

Brett Buchheit: 1-2 with a walk, double and 3RBI

Johnny Nickelson: 1-2 with a single and BB, 2 runs scored

Brett Buchheit pitching: six innings, two hits, eight Ks, One earned run.

Championship game:

The Burgers came in as the underdogs. As the reigning champs, their strength of schedule was difficult and raised challenges early in the season.

The Phillies were a second-year team and easily the most improved. They came into the playoffs as the number one seed with their improved depth and electric top of the lineup scoring runs at will.

Michael Smith of the Burgers started off the game with a leadoff single, which would be negated with a Phillies double play and a fly out.

The Phillies would go ‘3 up 3 down’ respectively to the hands of Bryce Weidman, who led the Burgers’ pitching staff throughout the season.

The second inning would start a track meet on the bases for the Burgers, where they would go on to score two of their 12 runs for the game. Every hitter for the Burgers team recorded a hit, which was a huge accomplishment for the team. Hard work truly pays off.

The Phillies were able to tack on four runs after Bryce Weidman was taken out of the game in the fifth inning.  By that point, it was too late for the Phillies to put up a valiant effort.  Final score: Western Bacon Burgers 12, Phillies 4

The Burgers have gone two years, two championships under the leadership of Michael Smith.
