Josh Germany started for the Rats and threw a complete game, giving up just three hits, two earned runs, and four Ks. Jason Redd got the start and took the tough loss for the Warriors, as he and reliever Curtis Wooten only gave up six hits in a combined six innings of work.
Jason Redd led off the bottom of the first for the Warriors with a single to right but was stranded at third base.
Greg McCleary got the Rats offense going in the bottom of the first with a lead-off single, and the Rats put four runs up on the board with hits from Anthony Albonetti, Eric Smith, Matt Burgess, and Matt Miller. That turned out to be enough for Josh Germany as he was making the Warriors put the ball in play and utilized the outstanding Rats defense to make the four runs stand up.
Greg McCleary led the Rats’ offense with two of the six hits.
The Rats added an important insurance run in the bottom of the fifth on just a walk and a pair of errors by the Warriors to go up 5-0.
The Warriors made it very close in the sixth with three runs when Jason Redd walked and scored on an error, Pablo Marinez singled, and was driven in on a SAC fly to center by Patrick Newman. Curtis Wooten then walked and scored on a long single to left center by Maurice Howard.
A determined Josh Germany took the hill for the seventh inning and got the Warriors 1-2-3 to seal the win and the championship for the River Rats.
