2025 Newton Reds Capture 40+ Division Regular Season and Tournament Titles in Mid-Iowa Baseball League
Mid-Iowa Baseball League, 40+ Division
Newton Reds 5, Grays 4 (Regular season championship game)
Newton Reds 15, Blues 14 (40+ Game Two of Championship Series Sweep)

Submitted by Bobby Williams, manager
Our regular season didn’t wrap up until November 16th because many players were playing in the MSBL World Series, as we all decided to wait for them to return. We were able to hold off the Grays 5-4 to win the league title.
Chad Osler threw a complete game and got the ‘W’. The Reds scored five runs in the top of the first, and Gray’s pitcher P. Brian Reese held us scoreless after that. Osler scattered nine hits, assisted by defensive gems by multiple guys, and a game-ending unassisted double-play by Sean Murphy.
Congrats to the Grays on another good season!

Our after-season tournament was won 15-14 against the Blues on October 8th in a two-game sweep at Cownie Field in Des Moines.
Jeremy Topps started the game, Casey Knapp came in and threw a clean three innings, got in trouble in the last frame, so Chad Osler earned the ‘W’, as the home team Reds scored four runs in the bottom half of the last inning to complete a 15-14 come-from-behind victory.
Ty Williams was 3 for 4 at the plate with a double and five RBI. Curt Gomes had the biggest hit of the game on a double with nobody on and two outs, scoring the tying run, while Jeremy Topps scored the winning run with Jon Williams walking it off with a single.
Veteran MSBL World Series and Mid-Iowa league umpire Mike Bell, home plate umpire for this game and a great friend and colleague, stated after the game, “It was the shortest-longest game I have ever umpired!”
Congrats to the Blues on another good season!
