‘Jacksonville Indians Sweep Marietta Bulls to Claim Second Championship in a Row’
Submitted by Joe Hellett
The Jacksonville Indians swept the Marietta Bulls 12-0 and 7-3 to claim their second league championship in a row.
The Bulls had a storybook ride through the playoffs after losing their first game, winning three straight elimination games to earn their first championship berth in their 13-season history under board members Danny and Chris Haynes, but were defeated by a veteran Indians squad in both games of the championship doubleheader.
The Indians received two complete game efforts, with Caleb Pitts throwing a shutout in game one and stalwart starter Willie Farrar going the distance in the penultimate game, allowing two earned runs.
The Indians were led by MVP catcher Brandon Douglas, who caught both games and went 6-8 at the plate with a home run, two doubles, and seven RBI, as well as slugger Nick Ulrich, who was 5-8 at the plate, with a long 3-run home run to left.
This championship represents the 11th league championship out of 17 seasons for the Tribe.
