The Cigars won the Atlanta MABL 25+ Championship Series this past weekend. After a first-round bye, the Cigars won 2 of 3 games in a tough semi-final series against the Black Sox. That series concluded with a clutch walk-off 2-run home run by Jah-Neel Warner to give the Cigars a 10-9 win.
The Cigars faced the Cherokees in the Championship Series and knocked out the Cherokees in two straight games (8-5, 7-2) to win the championship.
The Cigars won game one behind seven strong innings from starter Chris Porter, who finished with 10K and one earned run. In game two, Matt Bezdicek got the Cigars started with a mammoth home run to left field, while Isaac Phillips had a huge 2-run RBI to put the game away.
Spencer Middleton, Matt Bezdicek, Jake Brown, and Sean Lennox combined for seven innings and allowed only two runs in game two. The entire Cigars lineup contributed in both games, putting up 15 runs on the day.
The Cigars finished the season with a 19-4 (.826) record while achieving their second straight championship. This is the sixth consecutive season the Cigars have made it to the Championship Series. The team is 95-32-4 (.740) over that stretch. This is the Cigars’ third overall championship, adding to wins in 2024 and 2012.
