2024 Pistols Make it Four in a Row in 50+ AAA Division of Southern Colorado Adult Baseball League

Southern Colorado Adult Baseball League, 50+ AAA Division

Colorado Springs Pistols 7, Colorado Springs Thunder 3 (Game two in best-of-three Championship series sweep)

Submitted by Chasen Booher, Pistols’ manager

The Colorado Springs Pistols defeated the Colorado Springs Thunder during a best-of-three doubleheader, 15-2 & 7-3, on Sept. 29th to win the 2024 MBSL of Southern Colorado Adult Baseball League 50+ AAA Division Championship. It was the fourth straight title for the Pistols, who have won the league undefeated in 2021 and 2023 while losing only two games in 2022 and 2024. We had a rocky start to the first half of the season going seven wins and two losses, then getting most of the team back and finishing with eight straight wins.

Mike Wilson was the starting pitcher for game one of the championship and pitched seven innings, giving up two runs off of eight hits and four strikeouts. The offense created 15 runs off of 21 hits with five players going 3 for 4, so we had a strong showing at the plate.  Steve Fisher hit a 2-run bomb in the fourth inning to solidify the win.

In game two, Dan Seale was our starting pitcher giving up three runs off of four hits and six strikeouts, but struggled with control by walking eight batters. The defense was a big help in keeping those runners from scoring. The offense sputtered a bit scoring only two runs through the first five innings, but then the bats got going with five runs in the last two innings.

Notables: Mark Tucker went 5 for 7, Nick English 4 for 7, having a great day, and Chasen Booher went 6 for 8 in the two games. It was a great way to cap the season that started a little frustrating.

We have some great pitching and defense to keep the runs down, but our offense drives this team. We get guys on base, then steal and get base hits to score runs. It is a very simple strategy, but we have fun playing together so we never feel we are out of a game. In the last game of the championship, we were down 3-1, going into the last two innings and the bats woke up.

I do not really manage the team, but put the guys in positions that fit them and help the team. My teammates are very selfless and will do what it takes in those situations to move runners and score runs. We have a great time joking in the dugout and on the field.

This year we did not have a single individual who was MVP for the team. Mike Wilson is one of our starters with a 5-1 record and a 1.99 ERA. He has been lights out and was incredible for our travel team that went to the MSBL World Series in Phoenix. Danny Seale had a 4-1 record with a 3.11 ERA. Offensively, our team batted over .423 with our top 4 batters hitting over .600 and Chasen Booher leading the team with 24 stolen bases.
