2024 Padres Overwhelm Patriots for First Long Island Midweek MSBL Ty Cobb Division Title

On Friday night August 2, 2024, the Frank Macchia & Ron Coan-led Padres defeated the Patriots, 11-1, clinching their first 2024 Summer Midweek Ty Cobb Division championship.  The Padres had a great season run finishing in first place with a record of 13-2-1, while having one of the lowest runs against (RA) of 55.

The offensive team leaders include Chris DeRosa, with a batting average of .696, Philip Echevarrio at .633, and Wayne Holzman with a .621 average

The pitching standouts include Steve Storz, Pete Fasilli, and Philip Echevarrio.

Steve Storz started five regular season games, pitched in seven total games, and finished with 33 innings pitched with 27 strikeouts.  Steve also got the game-one playoff win over the Patriots 19-4.

Philip Echevarrio pitched in six regular season games with 15 strikeouts, and won and pitched playoff game two, pitching the Padres to an 11-1 victory.

The Padres success is due to the entire roster of players from the previous Long Island Tigers and Padres who if had not merged for 2024, would have folded.

The Padres will celebrate this 2024 Championship and look forward to defending their title in 2025!
