The Cubs capped off a terrific season finishing 11-1-1, with a decisive 18-4 Championship Game victory over the second-seeded Braves to capture the 35-over title. Nate Pullen hit home runs in both rounds of their playoff victories, highlighting a high-powered offense and excellent defense that backed up tremendous pitching efforts from veteran pitchers Jim Acton in the opening round and Stan Henderson, who earned the win in the Championship game.
Stan, at 74 years young, carried a sub 2.30 ERA into the playoffs, and surrendered just four runs to a gritty Braves team over five innings of work. Aaron Waggoner came on in relief as the Cubs’ bat broke the game open late.
