‘Orioles Log ‘Repeat’ Season’
The Canton (Ohio) Orioles, managed by Mark MarLett, continued their winning ways with their second straight Ohio MSBL 60+ championship. The Orioles finished the 2024 season with a 15-2 record by winning both the regular season title and the playoff championship.
The Ohio MSBL games are played at historic Thurman Munson Memorial Stadium named in honor of the legendary New York Yankees catcher and Canton native Thurman Munson.
In the championship game, the Orioles defeated the well-known and excellent A2Z Sports baseball club based out of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. The final score was 13-9. The Orioles had a well-balanced offense all year long and in the finals, they banged out 16 hits.
The finals were a hard fought game. The Orioles were led by the competitive pitching of Kevin Fowler who pitched nine tough innings giving up only three earned runs in the championship game. Kevin Fowler was the Orioles big game pitcher all year long.
The Orioles pitching, defense and offense, were excellent all season long. The outstanding pitching staff included Kevin Fowler, Ray Fantozzi, Bill Reed, Craig Pucci and Hank Newman.
Brad Myers was the league’s best catcher and Tim Uzl contributed with solid defense behind the plate.
The outstanding outfield play was led by centerfielder Tim Walters and corner outfielders Scott Koenig, Lou Petit, Tom LoCascio and Tim Adams provided great defense and powerful hitting.
Shortstops Craig Pucci and Ronnie Westren were the foundation of the infield supported by the excellent second base defensive skills of Larry Stadelman, Scott Weiner, Sean Broom and Bill Reed. The hot corner was a team strength led by the consistent play at third base of Ray Fantozzi.
All season long, Tom Hannan and Richie Anderson made all the infielders look good with their excellent defense at first base.
The Orioles “team” truly enjoyed playing together and all nineteen players contributed to a very successful back-to-back championship summer season. Special thanks to the Ohio MSBL staff members for all their hard work, to a great group of local umpires and to the stadium maintenance staff. Everyone’s dedication to summer baseball was very much appreciated!
