December 12, 2023…The Marlins defeated Red Sox 6-0 on Tuesday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Ryan Heller and Payton Jenkins each pitched for the Marlins in the game. Jenkins started the game for the Marlins. The righty gave up three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking none. Heller pitched four innings of no-run ball for the Marlins in relief. The duo gave up one hit, struck out seven and walked two. Heller induced a flyout from Tony Cacciatore to get the last out.
Wyatt Nale began the game for the Red Sox, allowing eight hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking one.
The Marlins got on the board in the first inning after Marcello Parker singled, scoring one run. A double by Parker extended the Marlins lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning.
The Marlins collected 11 hits in the game, with Parker leading them with three hits in four at-bats. Albert Cartenudo and Parker each drove in two runs for the Marlins. Carlos Gil collected two hits for Marlins in three at-bats and Cartenudo stole two bases, as the Marlins stole four bases in the game. The Marlins also turned one double play in the game.
Angel Mendez, Mike Mondzelewski, Chris Rolfes, and Shane Harris each collected one hit for Red Sox. The Red Sox also turned one double play in the game.
The Marlins finished their undefeated season, going 14 and 0, including defeating the Red Sox for the championship. This is the second title for the Marlins. The Florida Adult Baseball League is sending a team to the MSBL Holiday Classic in Sanford, Florida in January for the first time. Their Spring season starts in early February with pitchers and catchers reporting the last week of January.
