2023 Kokopelli’s Sweep Pirates in Championship Series of Denver MSBL
Denver MSBL
Denver Kokopelli’s 10, Pirates 3 (Game two in best-of-three championship series sweep)
After a three-year hiatus, the Denver Kokopelli’s returned to the MSBL and utilized a strong overall team performance in all aspects of the game to secure their fifth MSBL championship since 2007 in the Denver MSBL. Following a sweep in the semi-final series, Kokopelli’s did the same in the best-of-three championship series against the Pirates.
While there was timely hitting to overcome early deficits in both games, it was the starting pitching of Scott Holstein and Jarret Lanzen, and defense, that ultimately led the way. Kokopelli’s pitching staff walked just two batters while striking out 11 while the defense did not commit any errors, led by Jon Reid, Parker Bullard, Caleb Smith, Lou Gabel, Taylor Redman, and Mario Martinez. Matt Click notched two saves, striking out six of the seven batters faced. Valuable contributions from veterans Dave Westmeyer, Josh Wobeter, Nate Cabrera, Bobby Frawley, and Jason Brunett sealed the deal for another championship banner. Denver Kokopelli’s are in their 17th year of existence and managed by Brooks Robinson.
