The 21+ Ironbirds won the 2023 21+ National Division Championship of the Chesapeake MSBL defeating the Maryland Cubs 2 games to 0 in the best-of-three series, this coming in only their second year in the league. The IronBirds swept the fourth-seed Annapolis Mariners in the semi-finals.
While a handful of veteran players have been in the league for years, the remainder of the team consisted of new guys just returning to the game. After a very unpleasant first year in the league, the team added some new players and rebuilt the core guys that returned.
The Ironbirds weren’t happy at the beginning of the season, knowing they could play much better than they were. They finally worked out the kinks, and went on a tear, winning 17 straight games to finish the season. They managed to go all the way from a 6-4 record, to 23-4, scoring 187 runs in the regular season, and only allowing 65.
In the final four playoff games, they managed to score 37 runs, allowing 18. Even though this team consists of players ranging from early 20s to early 50s, (yes, you’re reading that right) these guys were all like brothers on and off the field. We’re looking forward to seeing what they can do in 2024!
