Syracuse MSBL

Syracuse Brewers 11, Syracuse Chiefs 10 (Game three of championship series)

The Syracuse Brewers won their 10th championship with a walk-off victory in the 11th inning.  The Brewers finished off their season with a 16-2 overall record with a very competitive back-and-forth 3-game finals series against a talented Syracuse Chiefs team.

The Brewers competed against the Syracuse Chiefs for the fourth consecutive finals.  The Brewers started off with an early lead in game one with a hit from Greg Jasek, and RBI singles from Rob Allen and Nate Burns.  The Chiefs were able to overcome the early deficit with timely hitting and by taking advantage of some costly Brewers mistakes, scoring four runs. The Chiefs were victorious 5-3.

The Brewers were able to gain an early lead again in the second game and were able to build with a 7-run seventh inning, all with two outs, including consecutive hits from Greg Jasek, Dave Kinney, Rob Allen, Nate Burns, and Gavin Bertram. The Chiefs scored six runs in the later innings to shorten the deficit but came up short in a 12-7 loss.  Rob Allen led the team with three hits, Greg Jasek and Nate Burns had two hits each, and Gavin Bertram totaled three RBIs.

In Game three, the Brewers found themselves with an 8-run deficit in the first inning. The Chiefs came out with hot bats with six hits, one walk, and one HBP.  The Brewers were able to chip away at the Chiefs lead with a walk and timely base-running by Rob Allen and an RBI triple from Nate Burns.  The Brewers also had a productive third inning with back-to-back home runs by Greg Jasek (3-run) and Dave Kinney bringing the score to a more manageable 9-6.

The Brewers were able to tie the contest in the ninth with walks to Aaron Wisniewski and Ted Wilson and hits by CJ Szczesny and Yale Hughes. The Brewers’ pitching of Ted Wilson and Greg Jasek were able to hold the strong Chief’s offense to only four hits, and no runs, over the 9-innings, including 11 k’s. The Brewers were able to walk off with an 11-10 victory with a hard line drive by CJ Szczesny.

Gavin Bertram led the Brewers with three hits and two stolen bases.  Dave Kinney, Yale Hughes, and CJ Szczesny had two hits each.

The Brewers have been in existence since 2010 and have been very blessed and fortunate playing in 13 of 14 final series, winning 10 of them. Dan Kernan and Rob Allen (shown below) are the only two full-time players for all 10 championships.
