‘Ducks Sweep Blue Jays for ‘Repeat’ Championship’

Submitted by John Boyd, Ducks manager

On August 20th, the ProGame Ducks captured their second consecutive 25 & Over Championship with a resounding 16-4 win over the Long Island Blue Jays.  After a come-from-behind victory in the eighth inning of game one, the Ducks jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.  Caleb Olesen, Seth Moskowitz, John Boyd, and Will Horan paced the attack combining for 13 hits, including a 4-4 effort turned in by Olesen.

This season started a bit slow for the Ducks with a 7-4-1 record during the season, good enough for the fourth seed out of eight for the playoffs.  However, they really hit their stride with a 6-0 run thru the quarters, semifinals, and finals.  The semifinals versus the Braves was the stiffest test they encountered, winning both games in extra innings.

The Ducks pitching continued its brilliant run with a dominant effort by winning pitcher Steven Quiroz.  He allowed six hits and one run over seven innings to stifle a Blue Jays team that entered the Finals on a roll offensively.  Together with David Stern, Jason Foehrenbach, Scott McMillan, and Joe Melia, Quiroz spearheaded the Ducks pitching staff that combined for a 3.10 ERA on the year.

The offense was paced by the aforementioned Olesen who led the team with a .517 batting average and Joe Melia who led the team with 19 RBIs.  Strong seasons at the plate were also turned in by Casey Gordon, Rocco Santopadre, Jr., and Seth Moskowitz.  However, the Ducks were able to put out a solid lineup all year long that consistently put the bat on the ball, as evidenced by the .336 batting average for the team on the year.  An impressive statistic was the 100 to 95 ratio of walks/HBP versus strikeouts for the season.

All in all a great season for the Pro Game Ducks!
