Long Island MSBL, 25+ AA Division

Nassau Bucs 4, Twins 3 (Game two in best of three series sweep)

‘Liebowitz Rips Walk-off Championship Gapper’

As Mike Mordecai once said, “Good pitching, good defense, and some timely hitting, and that adds up to victories.” That was exactly the case for the Nassau Bucs in the 25+ AA Championship Series of the Long Island MSBL/MABL.

Trailing by one run in game one, the Bucs plated two runs in the top of the sixth on a bases-loaded single up the middle by Andrew Khan. That was all the Bucs needed as starter Christopher Hoey stymied the Twin’s bats over seven innings of 1-run ball.  Closer Joe Maci secured the last six outs and the defense was lights out.

Game two was a back-and-forth affair as the Bucs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Andrew Khan singled up the middle to score Sam Gutierrez. The Twins answered immediately as they plated three in the third to take a 3-1 lead. From there the comeback was on!

Starter Nick Wendling would hold the Twins to three runs over eight innings, striking out 13 along the way giving the Bucs a chance to claw back. The Bucs plated a run in the sixth on a Twins error and another in the seventh as Jamie Liebowitz doubled to right field to score Dario Nunez.

Knotted at three in the bottom of the ninth after Joe Maci put up a zero on the bump in the top half, it was the aforementioned Liebowitz that clinched the Bucs title as he ripped a 1-0 fastball to the left-center gap for the walk-off 4-3 win!
