‘Dugout Baseball Cops Championship in Inaugural Year’
Dugout Baseball had a phenomenal inaugural season in the Central Ohio MABL, setting the bar very high for seasons to come. This year’s team featured several long-time veterans, three players who came out of retirement, and eight newcomers to the league. Finishing the year at 19-1 with a 14-game win streak in the regular season, DBC competed at a high level all year long. In the postseason, they went 6-1 securing the championship with a doubleheader sweep of the Ohio Pirates, one of which was by run rule.
Dugout was firing on all cylinders this season hitting .393 and posting a 1.44 team ERA. The offensive was led by Mike Shroyer (.522/.610/.587) and Bo Walker (.500/.593/.727) and the pitching was secured by Robby Sexton, who threw 46 innings, allowing two earned runs, 95 K’s, a .43 WHIP, and a 0.93 ERA.
After both teams had to win a Game Three on Saturday in their respective semi-final series just to advance to the 2022 League Championship Series on Sunday, October 16, 2022. Dugout Baseball defeated the Ohio Pirates, 12-2 and 11-8 to win the Championship.
Dugout Baseball became the first team since the inaugural league season champion in 1996 to win the League Championship in their first season of existence. Dugout Baseball finished the season as the regular season and tournament champion with an overall record of 25-2.
Robby Sexton (Dugout Baseball) was named Championship Series MVP while going 5 for 7 with six RBI and two runs scored.
