2022 Cleveland Steve’s Sports Gets Back in the Winner’s Circle with 25+ Gold Division Championship in Cleveland MSBL

Cleveland MSBL, 25+ Gold Division

Steve’s Sports 10, Cleveland Blaze 5

Cleveland Steve’s Sports returned to glory by winning the Cleveland MSBL 25+ Championship game by a score of 10-5 over the Cleveland Blaze.  Steve’s finished the 2022 campaign with an overall 13-2 record. The championship game was the final game of a double-elimination tournament that capped off five meetings between the two clubs.

The Blaze got on the board early with a solo home run in the top of the second inning. Steve’s responded in the bottom of the inning with a 2-run moonshot by Dan Hudeck. Steve’s Sports was able to take advantage of some defensive miscues by the Blaze in the middle innings to add to their lead.

Steve’s Sports were led offensively by Steve Ross and Rob Jackman with two hits apiece. Dan Hudeck and Jonathan Nola had two RBIs each.

Kyle Stahlberg
got the win on the mound giving up two runs over six innings of work.

“This was probably our toughest season,” said Steve’s player/manager John Ramsey. “Not just from a competitive standpoint either, but getting nine guys to each game was a challenge this season. We have numerous guys who play on other teams in different age groups throughout the greater Cleveland area. We had to forfeit a game this Summer and had to play a couple of others with only eight guys.

I credit the guys for sticking through it as a few were going through some off-the-field challenges. As the season was nearing its end, we knew we were on a crash course versus the Blaze and wanted to avenge last season’s runner-up finish. The Blaze is an outstanding club, full of a great bunch of guys. The final score may not show it but the game felt like a one-run game until the final out.”

Next up for Cleveland Steve’s Sports is a trip to Columbus, Ohio for the Capital City Classic.
