‘Barrau Leads Redbirds to Repeat Championship’
Submitted by Rick Crain, Redbirds manager
The Redbirds repeated as the 35+ champions of the West Metro Atlanta MSBL Saturday morning league with a 15-7 win over the G-Braves. The Redbirds took advantage of the G-Braves early pitching woes with three runs in the first inning and six runs in the second inning. Mike Vanfossen came in middle relief for the G-Braves and held the Redbirds to just one run.
The Redbirds then scored three more in the sixth and two in the seventh. For the Redbirds, Reggie Barrau pitched six strong innings, giving up one run on five hits while striking out four. Reggie was also big at the plate, going three-for-four with two RBIs, a stolen base, and four runs scored. Barrau was named MVP of the Year for the Redbirds for his pitching and hitting excellence. For the G-Braves, a late comeback bid was highlighted by fleet-footed center fielder Larry Colbert, who scored six of the team’s seven runs.
Congratulations Redbirds, repeat WMAMSBL champions!
