Submitted by Jeff Wehrman, Lugnuts manager
The 45-over Lugnuts from the Milwaukee-Rock Baseball League finished the regular season winning the last four of five regular-season games, which propelled them to the #1 seed in the National League play-offs. The late-season momentum continued into the playoffs. The Lugnut’s offense was too much for the #2 seed Astros in the championship series, which included 100 hits between both teams. The Lugnuts led the hit column 53-47 in the three games.
The Astros won a wild game one by turning a bases-loaded double play to end the game and get the 17-16 win. However, the Lugnuts took game two, 11-2, and game three, 11-8.
Mike Radke won game two with a complete-game win and pitched a solid six innings in game three to get the win. Chris Mathis pitched the final three innings to get the save in the decisive game three. The Lugnuts Dan Marx and Lee Kleszczynski led the Lugnut’s offense with seven hits each in the series while the Astros were led by Drew Rodriquez with eight hits, while Tom Klauba and Ryan Anderson contributed six hits apiece.
