2021 Huntsville Royals 28+ Regular Season Champions at Southern Senior Baseball League

Submitted by Nathan James, Royals manager

We have a total of 15 players on the Royals roster and out of those 15, we have eight that played college baseball at some level. We have been together as a unit for about six years with close to the same roster.

Our story is really not very dramatic, I’m afraid. As a unit, we have several guys that can pitch and they probably average about 84 mph down to 70 mph between all of them. Our pitchers this year were Lowell Sanderson, Jake Liverett, Griffin Cox, Parker Adams, Nathan James, and Jay Napp.

Our typical Lineup during the week was like this: Brett Olsen (Played at Auburn) 1B, Jordan Beohm 2B (played in California), Matt Thomas SS (Played College baseball in TN), Jake Liverett 3B (Played college baseball in TN), Andy Smith LF (High School), Nick Old CF (High School), Jay Napp RF (High School) and Nathan James Utility (played at UNA). However, we have several guys who filled in consistently in spots or moved spots to help our team. Griffin Cox lf and P, Parket Adams (played college baseball) at 1B, 2B, and P, Eran Franks (played college baseball) OF, and DH, Brad Isbell 1B and 2B, Tanner Cimo (played at Auburn and UAH) at SS, and Rhys Hartung (played college in CA) at C.

How we became season champs is really pretty simple; we gave up the least runs. This was due to two things: our pitching staff threw strikes and our defense in most games was extremely solid. We turned 27 double plays over the year and had minimal errors during the season. We also as a team hit 11 home runs with a team batting average of .345.

This league is about having fun.  We enjoy each other’s camaraderie and have a good time at the park.  Unfortunately, we don’t have a team photo as it’s hard to get all these guys together at once!
