‘O’s Capture Fifth Playoff Title in a Row’

Playing in the highly competitive Detroit MSBL 42+ Hughes Division, the Great Lakes Orioles finished in First Place for the fourth straight year with a dominating 20-3-1 record. They then plowed through the playoffs to win their fifth straight league playoff championship. After winning their first-round playoff game against the fourth-place Cardinals, the O’s swept the opening double-header of the 3-game Championship Series against their closest rival, the Jet Box Bombers.
The Orioles played like champions all season long, led offensively during the regular season by first baseman Jason Copeland, who led the team in hitting (.553) and RBI’s (35). Others leading the offense for the 42+ O’s, with 40 or more at-bats, were Bryan Santo (.489), Kevin Mcilhargey (.475), Terry Frikken (.468), Shawn Crockett (.451), Matt Enciso (.411), Chris Smith (.407) and Bryan Baumann (.404). The O’s scored 238 runs during the regular season and batted .437 as a team. On the pitching side, Steve Michelz led the way with a 5-1 record, followed by Bryan Santo who was 4-0.
In the playoffs, the offense was led by Bryan Santo with an impressive .667 average, followed by Chris Smith at .625. Kevin Mcilhargey led the pitchers with a 2-0 record.
The final record for the 2021 42+ Orioles was an impressive 23-3-1.
