‘MVP Steve Glendenning Shines at the Plate in Victory Over Grizzlies’

On Sunday, October 3rd, 2021 the Colorado Springs Colt .45’s took on the Colorado Springs Grizzlies in the AA Division Championship Game in Colorado Springs, CO. The Colts prevailed over their arch-rival the Grizzlies 16-3 in seven innings.

Four hits from Steve Glendenning helped lead the Colt .45s past the Grizzlies 16-3 on Sunday. Glendenning doubled in the second, singled in the fifth, singled in the sixth, and doubled in the seventh.

An early lead helped propel Colt .45s to victory. The Colt .45s scored on a walk by Craig Haughton, a single by Neil Chapman, a double by Glendenning, and a single by Scott Johnson in the second inning.

The Colt .45s pulled away for good with six runs in the second inning. In the second Dave Chapman was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Haughton drew a walk, scoring one run, Neil Chapman singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring two runs, Glendenning doubled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run, and Scott Johnson singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run.

The Colt .45s put the pressure on in the sixth, lead by a single by Glendenning, a fielder’s choice by Chapman, and an error on a ball put in play by Jim Gustafson.

Glendenning started on the hill for the Colt .45s. The pitcher went three innings. Andy Smith came for two innings in relief and Mark Bronson pitched the last two innings to close out the game.

The Colt .45s had 16 hits in the game. Glendenning, Scott Johnson, Jeremy Fogel, Jack Bookout, Andy Smith, and Neil Chapman all managed multiple hits for the .45s. Glendenning went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead the Colts in hits.

Norm Churchill toed the rubber for Grizzlies. The pitcher battled all day and never gave up. Churchill allowed 16 hits and 16 runs over seven innings, striking out two.

Shane Cornell led the Grizzlies with three hits in four at-bats. Cornell also led the Grizzlies with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with seven stolen bases.

Finally, the Colts want to say Thank You to the Grizzlies for always being classy and always giving us a run for our money. We would also like to say a special thank you to our league president Bud Maison for all his hard work throughout the season.  What a year!!
