‘Brewers Walk-off in First Year in League’

Submitted by Pat Swinsick, Brewers manager

The Brewers had a great season. We started off going 0-3 only to finish the year with a 13-5 record including the playoffs. The championship game was one for the ages.

We jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a sacrifice fly by Brendan Dwyer. The Bandits took the lead 2-1 in the top of the third inning. The lead didn’t last long as we scored two more in the bottom half. Corey Mathews and Justin Swinsick lead the inning off with back-to-back singles followed by a two-RBI double by Patrick Swinsick. We added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead 5-2. The Bandits fought back in the next inning to tie the game 5-5.

The game then stayed dead-locked until the ninth inning. The Bandits put up a four-spot in the top of the ninth to take the lead 9-5. We came in to bat in the bottom of the ninth inning. Andrew Brook led the inning off with a walk. Brendan Dwyer hit a double followed up by back-to-back singles by Bobby Swinsick and Jacob Simmons to turn the lead to 9-7. The next batter, Kyle McReynolds, hit a three-run inside the park home run to walk off with a 10-9 win.

Our leading hitters in the game were Bobby Swinsick (3-4), Kyle McReynolds (3-4), Patrick Swinsick (2-3), Cory Mathews (2-4), and Jacob Simmons (2-4). Being our first year in the league and winning the championship the way we did was very special. Our guys showed up and played hard every game and I could not be more proud of our team!
