2021 A’s Squeak by Defending Champs Red Wings to Win Rochester (NY) MSBL Championship

Rochester (NY) MSBL

A’s 5, Red Wings 4

The A’s stayed atop the regular season with a 15-1 record and swept the play-offs to reclaim the Championship trophy with a 5-4 battle against the defending Red Wings!  The A’s started out quick with a 1-0 lead in the first, only to have the Red Wings tie it up in the top of the second.  Then the A’s jumped out to a 4-run lead in the fifth and sixth inning on a pair of hits from Mike Lopez, who went 3 for4 on the day, to make it a 5-1 game.

The Red Wings scored one in the seventh on a pair of hits from Miller and Vinny Dallo, who went 2 for 4, and a ninth-inning 2-run surge by the never-say-die Red Wings made it a nail biter. But the save goes to Matt Jimenez with a 2-out strikeout to end the game.

A’s starting pitcher Chad Hendy scored the win, pitching seven innings giving up two runs on the backs of his stellar defense and I quote, “I couldn’t have done it without them.”
