Willamette Valley Men’s Baseball League, 18+ Division
‘Mariners Capture Division with 13-3 Record‘
Submitted by Brandon Ferris, Mariners manager
The year had many challenges for all of us, but it was a blessing to be able to play ball and manage a great team as well as league this year.
It was great to put such a quality team together and more than double the win total we had from last year. With the college season coming to a sudden end in the early spring it was great to give those guys an opportunity to still play.
We had some outstanding hitting from players like Derek Maiben as well as a great power hitting center fielder coming from Jacob Maiben. Solid behind the plate efforts were always there from Corban graduates like Bradley Cock and Ben Northrup. The pitching was dominant throughout the season and came from the likes of another Corban grad in Brendan Sweeny, as well as two closers in James Bedortha and a Corvallis High graduate Will Fehrenbaucher.
Some other great notables were Justin Misdfeldt, another Corvallis alum, Josh Felix, Clackamas player Brandon Cervantes, who held it down at first, and also great outfield play from John Ensey, Michael Ryan De la Santos and Ryan Dillion.
In the end the Mariners battled all season from the likes of the Salem Braves and a young and hungry team like the Salem Warriors, while amounting an outstanding record of 13-3 and dominating throughout the season.
