Submitted by Joseph Banda, Nationals manager

The Open Division 18+ Nationals of the San Antonio Men’s Senior Baseball League took the lead late in the game in a 12-11 victory over the Bombers on Sunday.  The game was tied at 11 with the Nationals 18+ batting in the top of the ninth when we scored one run to take the lead.

We were boosted by Sergio Neaves, who went 4-for-4 at the plate.  Sergio singled in the first, singled in the fourth, singled in the sixth and singled in the ninth.

The Bombers captured the lead in the first inning when two runs were driven in with a 2-RBI single.

Matt Cardenas and Angel Maldonado toed the rubber for the Nationals as Sergio Neaves and Vincent Banda each pitched one inning to help the Nationals secure the championship.

The Nationals 18+ socked one home run on the day by Josh Centeno, who notched the four bagger in the eighth inning. Angel Maldonado kept the Nationals in the game with his seven innings pitched with seven strikeouts.

We racked up 15 hits on the day as Sergio Neveas, Lawrence Schaffer, Hiram Aviles and Josh Centeno each racked up multiple hits.  As mentioned previously, Sergio went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the Nationals in hits.

It’s was the Nationals first championship in the 18+ Open division and hopefully the first of many more to come!
