‘Stingy Defense Leads Yanks to Title’
Submitted by Alden Stiefel, Yankees manager
The 2018 Chicago North Yankees (17-6-1 regular season and 5-1 during the playoffs) won their first Chicago North MSBL title since 2012. The Yankees formula for success was their strong pitching and defense, and clutch hitting. The Yankees pitching was led by Jordan Neuman (8-1) and Charlie Kerr (5-3), both of whom did the bulk of the pitching for the 2018 Yankees.
The Yankees surrendered only 4.5 runs per game during the regular season and three runs per game during the playoffs. In support of the pitching was the Yankees stellar defense throughout their Championship run. The Yankees won 11 of their 17 games during the regular season by three runs or less.
A staple of the Yankees team was their clutch hitting. Tom Behringer had a great year as the Yankees leadoff man and Rick Neidhardt provided the Yankees’ with many clutch hits throughout the season. All Yankee players contributed to the Yankees title run and look forward to defending their title in 2019.
